Purpose of meeting Discuss 2-year goals of Tech Committee

Carolynn gave an update on the HP Technology in Education Grant and the submittal that SAS has made. We expect to hear back from HP by May 1st, 2004.
We continued our discussion of technology goals for the School, a discussion that we began in our October, 2003 meeting. In today's meeting, we completed prioritizing the goals.
Top-priority goal: On-going teacher training to leverage our technology resources
Articulation & coordination within ESL classes, re use of technology/computers in the curriculum
Purchase 2 key software programs for ESL program (LiveAction English, English for All)
EL Civics unit development, particularly for health & employment, with integration into classroom use
15 laptops on carts for use at satellite sites (put in next year's budget)
2nd tier goals. Not in order.
Lesson plans that involve use of DVD's & VCR's & computers, including acquisition of DVD players.
Articulated computer classes
How-to classes in Voc-Ed, with focus on Latino Community (i.e., how to buy a computer, set it up, maintain a computer, select/install an ISP, consumer skills for literacy classes, etc.)
3rd tier goals. Not in order.
Develop community-access lab for drop-in use of computer lab at separate site, or using room 26
Provide follow-up technical assistance to teachers, for their use of technology in the classroom.
Rotate/expand membership of Technology Committee.
Action Items
Carolyn and Carolynn: nominate new members to Technology Committee
Carolyn: Set up training workshops that focus on the new laptop and digital camera.
Carolyn: Expland district email distribution list to include non-Sequoia style email addresses, so that people can receive notifications of workshops and seminars via their regular email addresses.
Next Meeting
We decided to change future meeting times to be in the late afternoon (i.e., 4pm or 5pm).
Our next meeting will occur as needed, sometime during the next 3 months.
