Technology Committee Meeting

November 7, 2001

Purpose of meeting          Discuss computer costs and federal grants

Attendees                         Anna Bennett, Carolynn Chase, Karen Reid, Judy Romines, and Jim Skeen.

Meeting Summary

1.    Computer Costs.  Jim described the unofficial bid he received through Clint Walker.  USMACH quotes us $1248 for the following machine:

  • Pentium IV 1GHz

  • 256 MB memory

  • 40 GB hard drive

  • 19" Monitor

  • 32 MB video card

  • 48x CDROM

  • Sound card and network card

This is an excellent price for a very powerful machine.

2.  Software Costs.  Jim described the informal quote he received for a site license of Norton Ghost.  For 25 computers, the license cost is $350.  For 60 computers, the grand total is $690.  Again, these are very reasonable figures.

3.  Federal grants.  We didn't talk about this today.  However, Jim is meeting with Sharon Swendell on Friday, November 16th to discuss this and other related topics.

4.  Community outreach.  We discussed various ways of disseminating information about the proposed computer lab, in order to get the maximum community impact possible.

5.  Next Meeting

Wednesday, November 28th, 12 noon - 1pm, Room 25, Middlefield Center.
